Since its foundation in January 2017, HIP has organized three interdisciplinary workshops, all of them taking their start from Hegel’s famous quotes. The first workshop dealt with Hegel’s early saying “A mended stocking is better than a torn one, not so for the self-consciousness.” Invited speakers joining the founding members reflected on the implied value of discontinuity from the perspective of their respective disciplines (philosophy, Egyptology, gender studies, or literary studies). The second and the third workshops had the same structure, the respective quotes being: “The spirit is a bone,” and “What is real, is rational.” In September 2018, HIP organized an international conference An Ethical Modernity? Hegel’s Concept of Ethical Life Today – Its Limits and Potentials; among the invited speakers were Paul Cobben, Christian Krijnen, Klaus Vieweg, David James, Bart Zantvoort, Max Gottschlich or Alberto Siani. In January 2019, the organizers continued their series of workshops, this time under a quote taken from passages of Hegel’s interpretation of Antigone in the Phenomenology of Spirits “Womanhood – Irony of the Polis”.
