Since its foundation in January 2017, HIP has organized four interdisciplinary workshops, all of them taking their start from Hegel’s famous quotes. The first workshop dealt with Hegel’s early saying “A mended stocking is better than a torn one, not so for the self-consciousness.” Invited speakers joining the founding members reflected on the implied value of discontinuity from the perspective of their respective disciplines (philosophy, Egyptology, gender studies, or literary studies). The other workshops have had the same structure, the respective quotes being: “The spirit is a bone,” “What is real, is rational,” and “Womanhood – irony of the polis.” In September 2018, HIP organized an international conference An Ethical Modernity? Hegel’s Concept of Ethical Life Today – Its Limits and Potentials; among the invited speakers were Paul Cobben, Christian Krijnen, Klaus Vieweg, David James, Bart Zantvoort, Max Gottschlich or Alberto Siani (in cooperation with the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences).
